Karandasj (Frozen semen only)
16.2 1/2 hh, 1992, Black, 9 ins bone. KWPN Keur
Owners: Messrs Greve and Venderbosch
KARANDASJ KWPN Keur Stallion – and the fact that he has been awarded KEUR status speaks for itself. Only exceptional horses with proven form and proven offspring are given this accolade.
KARANDASJ started his career with becoming Champion at the Performance test, with not only top jumping marks but eights for his basic paces. He jumped to International level as a 6 year old, winning and placed at Grand Prix level with Roelof Bril and then with owners' son Willem Greve - who started to ride him as a teenager. Together they won the silver medal at the Young Riders European Championships. His temperament and ability were an awesome combination!
KARANDASJ’s sire FEDOR jumped and won Internationally siring amongst many other successful progeny the international jumpers LOVERBOY and BURNING FEDOR. His famous sire DARCO a legend of modern breeding and jumpers.
He jumped for many years at top International level and is constantly still in the form as a sire and grandsire of top horses.
KARANDASJ’s dam CORRIE is a keur-preferent mare and is dam of KAHLUA, winner of the Silver Medal in the Pan Am Games. CORRIE is the dam of MILAN who competed successfully eventing in the Aachen World Equestrian Games 2006. CORRIE is a full sister of the famous VOLVO’S DOLLAR GIRL. CORRIE’s sire IRCO POLO is renowned himself and a son of another legend MARCO POLO.
With breeding like this it is no surprise that KARANDASJ has already produced some super offspring. He is the sire of the Burghley Young Event Horse Champion BURBIES BARBER, the Irish 5 year old Show Jumping Champion WHO PAYS THE BILL and the winner in Holland of the FFP breeders final POLIEN.
Sophie Tobin rides ORION II who is winning Internationally - jumping for Great Britain they recently won the Grand Prix in the Nantes CSI. ORION II has won more than £21,000 to date. Amongst others Albert Zoer is competing Internationally with OPTICAL ILLUSION. KARANDASJ has also produced dressage horses - OBELISK is competing at Prix St Georges in France with Christine Cassagnes and many more are coming up through the ranks.
KARANDASJ stood at Whorridge in 2007 and was enormously popular. Many top producers love his offspring - known not only for their ability but their temperament. Renowned judge Judy Bradwell has had many and is one of'The Karandasj' fans. Sadly KARANDASJ died of colic in 2008 – but the quality of his frozen semen is superb.
Eventing – many of Karandasj' offspring have been successful in young horse classes, and in 2010 Amy Hawley won the Aldon Open BE100 Three Day Event with his daughter ZEDEA. In 2011 Rosalind Canter rode APROBANTA (by KARANDASJ) into 2nd place at Le Lion d'Angers Young Horse World Championships. KARANDASJ is still one of the most popular sires of young event horses. The name KARANDASJ often appears in the sire box – we have DASJ ourselves, who in 2014 won the Gold at the Dutch Junior CCI* National Championships with Janou and went on to 15th place in the World Championships for Young Horses at Le Lion d'Angers. WALDOFF placed 6th in the CCI* with Rose Nesbitt at Weston Park Junior Championships in October 2014. Tim Price has a major superstar in WESKO - winner of Blair Castle CCI3* in 2013, and in both 2013 and 2014 2nd at Hartpury in the CIC3*. In 2014 they won both Tattersalls CCI3* and Luhmuhlen CCI4*
